Chris Golden’s DJ career started in 1969 while living in his home country of the UK.  He began by working small gigs and quickly became one of the go-to DJs after joining Avenue Artists Entertainment agency in 1971 when he became a resident DJ at the Mecca Ballroom at the Royal Pier in Southampton.

Shortly after, his reach expanded and he was DJing every evening working all over the south of England and on occasion the Isle of Wight.  During this time he hosted the BBC Radio 1 Disc Jockeys on a tour, twice, 1976 in Southampton and 1978 in Portsmouth.

In 1979 Chris left Mecca to move to the Concorde Club, the second oldest jazz club in the UK, as resident DJ in Eastleigh Hampshire.  The Concorde was, and continues to be, one of the places to hear jazz greats like Acker Bilk, Kenny Ball, Humphrey Lyttleton, Cleo Laine, Oscar Peterson, and in the early days Rod Stewart, Elton John, Manfred Mann, plus too many recording artists to mention.

In 1982 Chris Golden emigrated to Canada and in Winnipeg immediately joined Gary Robertson’s mobile music organization.  However an exciting and challenging career unfolded at Winnipeg Transit which put music on the back burner for a couple of decades.  Chris never lost interest in music and along with his regular family trips home, since retiring in 2008, Chris has journeyed back to the UK to take part in the annual Back-to-the-Sixties reunion for groups and DJs to relive the memories of those golden years which takes place back at the Concorde Club.

Chris has attempted to catalogue and digitalize his record collection which now contains 90,000+ titles.  It remains a work in progress even after many years! In 2015 he joined CJNU Nostalgia Radio as a volunteer acquiring his own show, Golden’s Oldies, a year later.  With the radio bug firmly embedded Chris is now embarking on a new project at Lifestyles 55 Digital Radio and will be reviving the much loved Golden’s Oldies.
